Mottisfont Abbey: Part 1

                                                                    Dear readers,
I have been quite busy lately and thus haven´t yet shown you all the gardens I had visited during my England vacation. In this post I´d like to share some of the many pictures I took of Mottisfont. As roses are my favourite plants, Mottisfont Rose Garden was a highlight of my garden vacation in England. I loved the great variety of roses they grow at Mottisfont. They cultivate so many old rose varieties. I got to know various old roses I have never seen before. Conveniently, almost all roses are labeled, which is wonderful as you can walk through the beautiful garden, smell the roses, and if there is one you like especially you can look at the label and might buy this variety for your own garden. I love the way in which the roses are combined with annual and perennial plants. And of course I must not forget to mention the delicious smell. It is not only the roses that smell delicious, but a dozens of lovely sweet smelling dianthus plants are grown in the borders and beds. Before I came to England I haven´t payed much attention to dianthus, but having enjoyed their smell so much here in England, I bought some for my own garden.
Have a lovely day!
Lisa

  1. Good morning dear Lisa,
It must have been a feast for your eyes to visit this beautiful garden. Most of the roses I never heard about before. About the Stewartia it is hardy. It survived the bad winter 2012/2013 in my little garden. A special gift it brings in autumn beautiful orange=red leaves like it is on fire.
    Have a wonderful day.

  3. Dear Lisa, oh, you where at the right time to see the roses flowering. It is a lovely garden, I visited a few years ago. Seeing the narrow path with roses either sides, that riminds me of your garden! So a lot of inspiration for you! Groetjes Hetty

    1. Hi Janicce,
thanks for commenting! I understand your wish for a bigger garden. I too had always wished to have a bigger garden one day and I am lucky that I got a bigger garden last year, but as you say, it is also a lot of work. I wish you good luck to find a bigger space for gardening soon!
      Best wishes,
      Lisa
