yesterday our travel group visited Sarah Raven´s beautiful garden- Perch Hill Garden. I have heard a lot about Sarah Raven before I went on my England Garden journey and also read her book about Sissinghurst Garden. I was happy that Sarah Raven herself guided us through her garden, telling us about her many lovely plants. Sarah regularly travels to various countries, for instance the Netherlands, where she is looking for new plant varieties. She chooses the varieties she likes best, takes them back to England and then cultivates them in England for some years. The varieties that proof themselves as beautiful and healthy plants will then be sold in Sarah Raven´s shop. Sarah also creates plant collections every year. She for example grows selected tulips for a couple of years and then sees which tulip combinations grow well in England and which ones of these can be combined beautifully.
We also met Sarah Raven´s husband Adam Nicolson, Vita Sackville West´s grandson. It was wonderful being at Perch Hill, enjoying all the beautiful colours and delicious smells. I especially loved Sarah Raven´s cutting gardens and decided that I would like to have a cutting flower bed in my own garden. However, this might have to wait till next year as I have so many other garden projects on my to do list. There is also a shop at Perch Hill and I purchased a great variety of seeds. I am looking forward to sow them next year or maybe I will even try some this year, but I think it might be too late for some flowers now.
Hope you enjoy!
Lisa
I loved Sarah Raven´s large collection of deliciously smelling sweet peas. They seem to grow very vigorously in England. |
I envy you your visit to Sarah's garden - she is very popular with gardners over here.
AntwortenLöschenI don't think it is too late to sew some seeds - I planted some morning glories in a pot just a few days ago, and they are already well up.
Dear Rosemary,
Löschenyes, Sarah Raven is a great gardener! I was very happy to see her and her wonderful garden. I was so impressed by the garden and it was very inspiring to be there. Thanks for your advice - I might try sewing some seeds.
Have a lovely day!
Best wishes,

Good evening dear Marijke,
Löschenhappy to hear that you enjoy the gardens! Yes, I brought back so many plants with me! Three roses, two lavendulas, some dianthus, a rosemary, some thyme and a dozen of seeds. I just could´t resist. Thank you, I came back home only one hour ago.
Best wishes,
Lisa
The garden seems to go on and on! What a nice location, and such a nice mix of entertaining and display areas plus the working garden.
AntwortenLöschenYes, it is a large area and Sarah told us that she has been creating new borders and gardens recently and there still seems to be space for more.
LöschenBest wishes,
Lisa
